Where are Sherbert Service Dogs trained?
Our dogs are raised and trained by their families with guidance from our trainers! Our started service dogs are raised in home by a small team of experienced puppy raisers within the Greater Vancouver area, with guidance from our trainers (see the Started Service Dogs page for more).
What Breeds Can Be a Service Dog?
While there are no restrictions or limitations to what breed can be a service dog, we do often recommend clients look into the following breeds because of their success rate as service dogs. Standard Poodles, Labrador Retrievers, Smooth/Rough Collies and Golden Retrievers, but depending on breed experience, allergies and the clients individual needs we will work with a variety of dog breeds and mixed breeds!
Do You Have Sponsorships or Discounts?
At this time we do not have sponsorships, discounts or financial support for prospective clients.
Our prices reflect our trainers time, experience, and continuing education.
We do offer payment plans in monthly installments, pay what you can rates per session, and occasionally have donors who help reduce costs.

We never want finances to be a barrier for individuals seeking service dog training, so please do not hesitate to reach out. Additionally, we offer low cost video based training via Patreon for $20 a month
If I Already Have a Dog Will You Work With Me?
We regularly take on clients who have already obtained their own prospective service dog, however any dog enrolled into Sherbert Service Dogs must pass a behavioural evaluation with our trainers during a consultation. There are a lot of factors that go into choosing a service dog candidate, including genetics, upbringing, breed traits, and the handlers individual needs.
Dogs under the age of four years will be assessed for candidacy and suitability. We will not assess dogs older than that due to training time constraints. If your dog is over the age of four, we offer at home task training and training for ongoing support.

What is the Average Wait Time for a Service Dog from Sherbert Service Dogs?
At this time, our wait times are based on what breeders have available puppies, current training cohorts, and our trainers availability. Currently our wait times can be 1-8 weeks. If there is no current availability, contact us to join the wait list, or enroll in our public group classes!
At this time (2026) our wait times for started dogs are 6-12 months. Email dogs@sherbertservicedogs.com for more details, and fill out a interest form.
How Do I Qualify for a Service Dog from Sherbert Service Dogs?
To qualify and apply for a service dog, and assistance in training your own service dog with Sherbert Service Dogs, you must have a disability that impacts your life and requires daily or regular assistance for day to day tasks (this could be help navigating the world with a wheelchair or walker by pushing buttons and retrieving items, bringing rescue medication during a panic attack, or finding exits, and benches to sit on during a panic attack).
We require documentation confirming a diagnosis, or suspected diagnosis (self diagnosis is accepted) from a qualified healthcare professional, or mental healthcare provider.
